Centelles
is a village settled in a valley in the very southern part of the
Comarca (administrative area corresponding to the English county)
of Osona, surrounded by small mountains except in the north, which
opens to the Plana de Vic (the Vic's plain). Coming up from Barcelona,
following the River Congost on the C-17 road, we enter into La
Plana de Vic for the same way that the Romans plotted, which later
on became a royal path.
The
village is surrounded by farming fields, although only a few people
of the working population earn a living as farmers. On the lower
slopes of the mountains, there are plenty of stone pine, holm-oak
and oak forests, and in the area called Sauva Negra, there is a
residual beech forest.
Centelles
has been and is still a village with cultural interests. There
are all kinds of cultural organizations. Characters like the engineer
and planner Ildefons Cerdà, who designed the famous area
of Barcelona called l'Eixample, and the linguistic Pere Barnils
were born in Centelles.
We
have to point out the Festivity of Pine, declared of national interest,
which takes place every 30th December.
