Municipality
that extends to the southern sector of La Plana de Vic (the Vic's
Plain) or to the head of the River Congost.
The village of Hostalets, which means little inns, was created on a strategic
point, on top of the old Slope of Pujolric, later known as the Slope of Sant
Antoni because of the Chapel and the Hospital of Sant Antoni that there were
in the meeting point among the municipality of Seva and the municipality of Centelles. Carreters and traginers (those
who carried merchandise in the old days) who went to Barcelona or from the Comarca
(administrative area corresponding to the English county) of Vallès Oriental to
Vic, after the hard slope of Sant Antoni, they had the need or the temptation
of stopping and having a drink, that is why one or two little inns were built
at the beginning of the 16th century.
So
Els Hostalets were built strategically on top of a hard slope,
where there is the fork between the path of Cerdanya, which was
at the same time an important cattle track, and the royal path
that everybody used to go through the region.
In
the municipality of Balenyà, we have to stand out the Santa
Maria de l'Ajuda's Church, where the past of the historical municipality
of Balenyà has been amassed. Balenyà also has
some outstanding masies (traditional Catalan farm buildings)
and the ruins of the Santa Maria de Savall's Monastery.
Each 10th September, the Witches' Festivity takes place, it has so much tradition
in our region.
